Grand Sumo in Hawaii 2007

June 9 & 10, 2007 - Neal S. Blaisdell Arena, Honolulu

For the first time in Hawaii in 13 years, the world's top sumo wrestlers faced off for a two-day single-elimination tournament filled with the ritual and pageantry of Japan's revered national sport. The event was held in Honolulu at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena on June 9th & 10th, 2007 with newly crowned Yokozuna Hakuho beating out Yokozuna Asashoryu for the overall tournament Sakura Cup.

June 9, 2007 - Honolulu Mayor's Cup
In a final with two Yokozuna against each other, Asashoryu won the match against Hakuho and clentched the Mayor's Cup, winning the first of two days of Grand Sumo in Hawaii.

June 10, 2007 - Hawaii Governor's Cup
Newly crowned Yokozuna Hakuho beat Yokozuna Asashoryu for the overall tournament Sakura Cup. Hakuho was the winner of the Sunday Governor's Cup, which pitted him against the Saturday Mayor's Cup winner Asashoryu for the final showdown.
